Oprah Winfrey Appears as Top Candidate to Host Academy Awards

Oprah Winfrey, talk show queen and cable network owner, appears as a top candidate to host the Academy Awards telecast in February.

The event organizers felt Winfrey’s presence would maximize the show’s audience and, given that her daytime talk show ended only lately, organizers think she will invite her legions of fans to the 84th Oscar.

If Winfrey will host the show, she will become the third solo female to do so, after Whoopi Goldberg, who hosted four times and Ellen DeGeneres.

Earlier this year, actress Anne Hathaway co-hosted the Oscars with James Franco, in a try by the Academy, to have younger viewers.
