Liza Soberano will play the newest incarnation of Darna.
It is the country’s most iconic superhero in an upcoming film adaptation by Erik Matti.
Hope Elizabeth Soberano is Liza’s real name. She was born in US to a Filipino father and an American mother.
At an early age of 12, after moving to Manila, she was offered jobs to model for print ads.
When she was 13 years old, a talent scout spotted her and was introduced to Ogie Diaz, who is her current talent manager.
Ogie encouraged her to become fluent in the language so she can land good television and film projects.
Soberano, who is now 19, started a booming showbiz career after starring in lead roles in ‘Dolce Amore’ and ‘Forevermore’ with onscreen partner Enrique Gil.
In an exclusive interview, Liza confirmed that she has accepted the role of Darna.
Liza said she really wants the role and she hopes she will learn a lot from the project.
She succeeds Marian Rivera, who was the last to portray the Mars Ravelo character onscreen.
Marian was 24 when she played Darna in 2009, and the choice of Soberano suggests that the newest version will now be a tad younger.
Angel Locsin, who played Darna in 2005, was first tapped by Matti to star in his film but forced her out of the project because of Angel’s back injury.
