Senator Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel’s wife Jewel Lobaton formalized a legal step in seeking an annulment.
Lobaton, accompanied by her legal counsel, Atty. Salvador Panelo, was emotional when she filed her petition, seeking an annulment of her 13-year marriage to Pimentel.
When asked what motivated the petition, the lawyer said that there have been abuses from day 1 of the wedding up to the day of the separation, and continuing up to the present.
The lawmaker and the former beauty queen were married in 2000 and separated in 2011. They have two children, aged 8 and 2.
Lobaton pointed to her kids in explaining her initial hesitation to take the legal step.
She felt sad and helpless because she was thinking of the children.
It took her sometime to decide because she really wanted to give it a try and a chance.
Lobaton said she did not want to harm. She was about to break down and she requested to end the interview.
Lobaton’s legal counsel, Atty. Salvador Panelo, brought up his client’s emotional outburst in requesting to excuse her from the interview.
The lawyer also detailed further steps they are planning to take in relation to Lobaton’s alleged abusive relationship with Pimentel.
They are set to file a petition for a temporary protection order against the senator.
Lobaton had sought the support of her friends in taking the matter to court.
She added that she had tried numerous times to speak with Pimentel but she was not given the chance.
She is really entrusting everything to God.
When Koko was sought for his statement on Wednesday, he opted to put off addressing the issue.
