Aga Muhlach is reacting to criticisms of celebrity politicians.
Muhlach says, it is unfair to underestimate celebrities who run for public office:
The actor announced his bid for the congressional seat in the 4th district of Camarines Sur, after pledging allegiance to the Liberal Party, before Mar Roxas.
The award-winning actor is joining a long list of celebrities who entered politics.
Muhlach was with wife Charlene Gonzales, and friends director Joyce Bernal, and actors Cesar Montano and Bayani Agbayani.
The actor wants to run in Camarines Sur (a province dominated by the Fuentebella political clan) because his father is from that place.
He said that he is ready to face any of the Fuentebellas in the 2013 mid-term elections.
The incumbent Rep. Arnulfo Fuentebella is in his third-term and he could no longer run in 2013 as provided by the 1987 Constitution, limiting elected officials to three consecutive terms in office.
The actor said he was ready to enter politics, but refuses to see it as dirty.
Muhlach said running for congress is his way of paying it forward.
Half of his life is spent in doing movies. He has so many blessings and he wants to spend the next half of his life to pay it forward, to give it back to the Filipino people, he said.
But he said he would continue working in the movie industry as well.
