Critics Question Cesar Montano’s Appointment In Tourism Promotions Board

Cesar Montano was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism Promotions Board by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Critics questioned Cesar Montano’s appointment as Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB).

President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Montano to head the agency.

Montano is in charge of promoting tourism programs of the country.

The actor said the President will not appoint someone who is not qualified for the job.

Probably, the president is confident that Montano can be able to promote the entire country, Montano said.

Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo confirmed on December 6, Montano’s appointment, saying she was instructed by the President even though she submitted a different name for the position.

Teo has another choice, and, in fact, she already submitted the name, Teo explained.

Montano is expected to assume office after December 15. ‘He has been appointed as the head of TPB. The appointment paper is already there.

They just have to induct him, so probably after the 15th,” Teo added. Montano’s office will be responsible for marketing and promoting the country domestically and internationally as a major tourism hub.

Montano will also assist the Tourism department in developing products and services to further increase the influx of tourists and tourism investments in the country.

Last September, Montano said that he will accept any government position deemed fit by the President.

He also reiterated that with or without any government post, he will continue to support Duterte.

There were other TV personalities who were also given a position in the Duterte administration: Comedian Arnell Ignacio was appointed Assistant Vice President for Community Relations and Service Department of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor), journalist Kat de Castro was named Tourism undersecretary, and Jimmy Bondoc was appointed as Pagcor Assistant Vice President for Entertainment. Showbiz couple Aiza Seguerra and Liza Diño were also appointed chairman of the National Youth Commission and chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, respectively. All the celebrities mentioned have been vocal supporters of Duterte during the 2016 elections.
