Charlene represented the Philippines in the Miss Universe pageant in 1994.
Charlene could very well understand what Maxine Medina went through last January 30.
The former beauty queen-turned-host also competed in the Miss Universe pageant when it was held in the Philippines back in 1994.
Gonzales said it is not easy to represent the country especially when the pageant is held in your homeland.
She praised Medina for staying strong despite criticisms, pressure and challenges of the competition.
There was tremendous pressure while victories and defeats were magnified.
Charlene commended Maxine for being a strong woman & for pushing forward despite the pressure & challenges being thrown her way.
Maxine shows strength and character which were the true attributes of a beauty queen, Charlene added.
Filipinos are looking to an exciting future ahead, as an abundance of blessings awaits Maxine.
‘We are proud of you and congratulations Maxine,’ Charlene ended.
Maxine finished in the Top 6 of the 65th Miss Universe.
She received the loudest cheers from the local fans and pageant enthusiasts and even impressed many during the swimsuit and evening gown competitions.
She failed to make it in the Final 3 but netizens still expressed their support to her.
Maxine said that she gave her best and did everything she could to win a back-to-back title for the country.
She was happy to be in the top 6 and she represented her country with her 100% full performance.
Miss Haiti, Raquel Pelissier and Miss Columbia, Andrea Tovar won hearts while Miss France, Iris Meteraene won the crown, the second title for her country since 1950s.
